The Ma'agan Mikhael Ship. The Recovery of a 2400-Year-Old Merchantman. Final Report, Vol. I

Volumes I and II tell the story of the discovery, excavation, preservation, reconstruction and scientific analysis of a fifth century BCE wooden merchant ship, nearly 14 meters long, almost fully intact and perfectly preserved in the shallow waters off the central coast of Israel, at the beach of Kibbutz Ma`agan Mikhael. The ship is compared with other known shipwrecks of the ancient world and an attempt is made to place it in the context of the development of ship construction technology in the Mediterranean. The ship has been reassembled and is on display in a purpose-built museum at the University of Haifa.
