Hasmonean and Herodian Palaces at Jericho. Final Reports of the 1973-1987 Excavations. Vol. II: Stratigraphy and Architecture; The CoinsThe first two chapters are devoted to the royal estate established by the Hasmoneans and the agricultural installations along its margins. The following twochapters deal with a group of buildings erected on the edge of the farm, between an industrial area and the Hasmonean Winter Palace. The most notable is a synagogue from the time of the Hasmoneans, the earliest discovered to date in the Land of Israel. The two following chapters are devoted to Tell es-Samarat and Cypros, a palatial fortress from the time of the Hasmoneans and Herod overlooking the Plain of Jericho. The final chapter is a catalogue of all the coins found in the excavations at the Winter Palaces.
